01 Jul Physician – heal thyself! Unwanted calf strain & getting old stinks.
Forty odd years of Rugby, Cricket, Football, Running, Weights, Cycling and last Wednesday my right calf muscle pops! First lower limb injury I’ve had like this. I was out running, got as far as Waitrose, then suddenly…..pop. I stopped immediately, hoped it was a cramp and tried to restart. No way.
I hobbled back home without overly stretching the injured calf muscle. Must of looked hilarious, it took me 25 minutes to do 2/3 of a mile! Used ICE for 4-5 minutes at a time probably 5 or 6 times that night. Managed to get some treatment the day after (thx Kirsty), continued ICE and pain free stretching and today, Sunday, couldn’t run but thinking of quick bike ride.
And before any of you ask, “Yes” I warmed-up, & “No” there was no warning.
Moral of the story – listen to your body, follow protocol and get treated. It works!
